Nino Nadareishvili is a research assistant at the R.W. Turner Lab. She graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a bachelor’s degree in political science and history. She also has a certificate in data analytics from General Assembly. Her lab work focuses primarily on recruitment and data collection for the Brain Health and Aging Study. Additionally, she works on community outreach efforts for the Black Male Caregiver Study. She is interested in pursuing a Master of Public Health and studying community approaches to addressing health disparities. In her free time, Nino likes to read, watch documentaries, and cook.

 

Kate Garcia, an Arizona native, graduated from Barrett, the Honors College at ASU in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Global Health and a minor in Family/Human Development following a pre-medical track. Kate has volunteered extensively in the Phoenix and Glendale communities.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked in the Disaster Relief department at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, and later in Vincere Cancer Center’s mobile lab units conducting COVID-19 tests. She is now the Program Manager for The Black Men’s Brain Health Conference, an R13 conference grant funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA). Additional financial support for the program is provided by the National Football League Alumni Association and the Alzheimer’s Association.

 

Aaron DeNicola is a graduate student from NJ working towards earning his MPH (Masters of Public Health) in Health Promotion at the GW Milken Institute School of Public Health. Aaron began volunteering for the Alzheimer's Association in middle school and has grown his role in the organization through work in programs, development, and policy. Aaron hopes to continue supporting the fight against Alzheimer's Disease and all other related dementia disorders through public health once he graduates.

 

Julia Sauriol is an undergraduate student at The George Washington University, majoring in Public Health and minoring in Biology. She is currently a part of the BS/MPH program as well, working toward her Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Community Oriented Primary Care. As she eventually hopes to pursue a career in medicine, Julia is interested in bringing a public health perspective to clinical outcomes and practices. At GW, Julia is a research assistant for Dr. Robert Turner, Operations Intern and Education Chair for One Tent Health, and Vice President of Global Brigades. In her free time, she can be found exploring the different neighborhoods of DC, cooking with friends, and going for a run.

 

Rahul Grover is a research assistant at the R.W. Turner lab. He completed his undergraduate career at The George Washington University majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in History. At GW, he was a lab assistant at the GW Cancer Center, a lab tech at a COVID-19 testing lab, and a camp counselor at GW Camp Kesem. He is currently getting his Master’s in Biomedical Sciences at Rutgers University. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, photography, and reading books.

 

Amani Ali is an undergraduate student at The George Washington University, studying Public Health and Psychology. She is passionate about improving preventative healthcare accessibility for historically marginalized communities. Amani hopes to obtain a Masters in Public Health and later pursue a career in clinical medicine. At GW, she works as a research assistant for the Social Cognition Lab, as well as The Center for Health and Healthcare in Schools through Milken Institute of Public Health. Amani is involved with the GW chapter of Global Brigades, currently serving as Vice President, and the Minority Women in Health Professions organization. In her spare time, she enjoys playing with her dog, spending time outdoors, and trying new foods.

Nitya Ampani is a senior at the George Washington University majoring in Public Health. She is interested in Health Policy, Health Equity, and Psychology. She is working towards enrolling in a Master's in Public Health program with a concentration in Health Policy to work towards eliminating health disparities. She hopes to apply her research skills in Psychology and Health Equity in Dr. Turner’s lab on the Black Male Caregiver Burden Study. In her free time, she enjoys working with children in school programs as a safety and health coordinator around the DC region, as well as reading, running, and traveling.

 

Josephine Decker is an undergraduate student at George Washington University, majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Biology, with hopes of pursuing a career in medicine. She is a research assistant for the Athlete Brain Health & Aging Study, working on Project Sleep. In her free time Josephine enjoys reading, exploring D.C., and spending time outdoors.

 

Venus Okwuka is a research assistant at the R.W Turner lab working on the Athlete Brain Health and Aging Study. She is a graduate student in the George Washington University Milken School of Public Health, as a candidate for a Masters in Public Health. She graduated from Loyola University Maryland, majoring in Biology and minoring in Environmental Studies. She is passionate about health policy and health equity, interning at the Maryland Campaign for Environmental Human Rights. In her free time, Venus goes to Orangetheory, reads, cooks, and spends time with her friends and family.

 

Sonali Alluri is a Research Assistant at the R.W. Turner Lab working on the Athlete Brain Health & Aging Study. She graduated from Rutgers University with a major in Exercise Science and Sport Studies - Applied Kinesiology with minors in Nutrition and Psychology. She spent a few years advocating for reproductive justice on the island of St. Maarten and partnered with the non-profit Period Org to deliver over 1,500 menstrual products to the island while also educating the community on the importance of reproductive health. As part of a social media campaign, known as Demythify Health, which she created to address the inequities and miscommunications in healthcare, she was able to present her poster "Demythify Medicine: Magnifying the Misinformation of Reproductive Health" at AMSACON 2021. She is currently pursuing her Master of Public Health from George Washington University's Milken Institute School of Public Health with a focus on Health Policy. She serves as a Student Ambassador for the Milken Institute School of Public Health. She is also an intern for McFarland and Associates Inc., focusing on maternal and child health, as well as substance abuse disorders in the D.C. area. In her free time, she loves watching Marvel movies, exploring the world, and eating a variety of cuisines.

 
 
 
 
 

Allyssa Peters is a first-year graduate student at North Carolina Central University studying Clinical psychology. She graduated from Cairn University in Spring of 2022 with her B.A. in Psychology. She is interested in clinical psychology, sports psychology, head injuries, and brain trauma. She is working towards receiving her master’s degree in clinical psychology from North Carolina Central University. She hopes to pursue a higher level of education by obtaining her Psy.D or PhD in Clinical psychology with an emphasis in sports psychology and/or head and brain trauma

 

Abby Maier is a current undergraduate student from Pennsylvania studying at the George Washington University. On a pre-medical route she is majoring in biological sciences with minors in both psychology and public health. She is working as a research assistant on the Brain Health and Aging Study. In her free time she enjoys traveling, spending time with friends, and trying new restaurants in the area. 

 

Alys Barton is an undergraduate student at the George Washington University majoring in Public Health within the Milken Institute School of Public Health and minoring in Bioinformatics. She is currently pursuing a career in medicine, hoping to be a part of the BS/MPH dual degree program, earning a masters in Epidemiology prior to attending medical school. At GWU, Alys is a member of AMPC and GlobeMed. Alys spends her free time enjoying photography, lacrosse, running, and cooking. 

 

Aaron Henry is a 2010 graduate of the George Washington University Physician Assistant Program, and holds a  Master of Health Science degree. Aaron currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the GWU Physician Assistant program and has over 12 years of clinical experience. Prior to becoming a physician assistant, Aaron honorably served as a Navy Corpsman with two tours of duty in Iraq. Aaron's interests include men's health and the improvement of healthcare access and education to underserved communities. Aaron's lab work focuses on community outreach for the Black Male Caregiver Burden Study. Aaron is very excited to work with Dr. Turner in order to improve the health of underserved populations. 

 

Caleb Franklin is an undergraduate student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette studying pre-med biology and Chemistry. Caleb is interested in pursuing an MD and specializing in either Anesthesiology, Neurology, or Cardio. In Lafayette, Caleb is very involved with his community through his Reginald F. Lewis Scholars program and his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. In his free time, Caleb enjoys working out, listening to music, cooking, and finding new ways to improve himself.

 

Sahana Kumar is an undergraduate student at The George Washington University, majoring in Neuroscience on the pre-medicine track. She is a research assistant at the R.W. Turner lab working on the Athlete Brain Health & Aging Study. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, traveling, and hiking. 

 

Alex DeLong, most recently from Columbus Ohio, is a current Master’s in Public Health student at GWU, concentrating in Global Health Epidemiology & Disease Control. In 2022, he received his Bachelor’s in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the College of Wooster, where his research focused on real-time clinical HIV surveillance and mosquito metagenomics. He also volunteered at the Wayne County Adult Workforce Readiness Center, helping adults study for their GED exams. After graduating, he worked at The Ohio State University’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, working on Multiple Myeloma and Cardiac Amyloidosis clinical trials. At the RW Turner Lab, he is a data analyst, mainly assisting with the Black Male Caregiver and Brain Health and Aging studies.

David Michael Hernandez is a graduate from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health: Epidemiology. David currently works for UC San Diego as a Research Assistant on Project 2VIDA! and TeenTalk which focuses on COVID vaccine hesitancy in Latinx and African American communities & sexual, reproductive health education among adolescents — respectively. He joins our media team with his years of experience with social media campaigns in past organizations. David will begin his MPH in Public Health Communications and Marketing at GWU in the Fall of 2023. In his free time, David is an avid podcast listener, enjoys coffee shops, leisure reading, and spending quality time with friends and family.

 

Raya Davidson is an undergraduate student, originally from Northern Virginia, studying at George Washington University. On a pre-law route, she is majoring in political science with minors in both geography and sustainability. Raya spends her free time rock climbing, running, cooking, and working with children.
